Morning 1 – 10.00-11.30
AS and A level – focus on ‘the new bits’
Applied Anatomy and Physiology:
- Skeletal and muscular systems
- planes of movement
- skeletal muscle contraction
- Environmental effects on body systems (A level only)
- exercise in the heat
Exercise Physiology:
- Diet and nutrition and their effect on physical activity and performance
- ergogenic aids
Coffee – 11.30-11.45
Morning 2 – 11.45-1.00
AS and A level – an overhaul of ‘the old favourites’
Applied Anatomy and Physiology:
- Skeletal and muscular systems
- joints movements and muscles
- functional roles of muscles and types of contraction
- Cardiovascular and Respiratory systems
- cardiovascular system at rest, during exercise of differing intensities and during recovery
- respiratory system at rest, during exercise of differing intensities and during recovery
Exercise Physiology:
- Energy for exercise (*GCE/A level only)
Lunch – 1.00-1.45
Afternoon – 1.45-3.30 (with short break during session)
AS and A level – focus back on ‘the new bits’
Exercise Physiology
- Preparation and training methods in relation to improving and maintaining physical
activity and performance
- aerobic training
- Injury prevention and the rehabilitation of injury (*GCE/A level only)
- acute and chronic injuries
- injury prevention
- responding to injuries and medical conditions in a sporting context
- rehabilitation of injury
